Trail, BC / November 12 2021 – Trail-based engineering firm, Austin Engineering, has provided employment for two new Engineers-in-Training (EIT) who joined the company in September.

Zak Furiak and Gulam Mohammed Mustafa started with the award-winning engineering firm in September in the civil and structural departments, respectively.

Both EITs completed a bachelor’s degree majoring in Civil Engineering, with Mustafa recently having graduated from the University of Alberta with a Master’s in Structural Engineering.

“I’m enjoying working with the Structural team on some challenging dam projects, which is an area of structural engineering I’m fairly new to. It’s great to have the opportunity to expand my knowledge and skill set by learning from and working with some of the best engineers in Dam Safety in Western Canada,” said Gulam Mustafa.

To date, Mustafa has worked with the Structural team on the inspections and drawings for Saddle Lake Dam and Kelly Creek Dam, as well as 3D modelling for Josephine Lake Dam, while Zak has worked on various industrial projects for Austin Engineering.

Zak hails from the Okanagan and completed a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan campus, but participated in several engineering internships in the Trail region in 2018 and 2019.

Prior to completing his Structural Master’s, Mustafa completed his undergraduate studies in India and interned in civil engineering at a construction company and conglomerate.

We’re continuing to expand and are always looking for talent that has the skills and the attitude to be a real asset to Austin Engineering. We’re excited to welcome Zak and Mustafa to the team and look forward to their journey as EITs with us
