Roger Austin P.Eng., Principal
As AEL’s owner and principal engineer, Roger has over 15 years of experience managing multi-million dollar projects, with extensive experience in earthworks, bridges, dams, foundations, structures, building envelopes, architectural finishing, process facilities, utilities, large scale mining operations, provincial and federal government projects and environmental reclamation.
At AEL, he leads a team of engineers and industry specialists on civil and structural designs, planning, project management and technical reviews, specializing in hydro projects, mining and water resources projects. His extensive experience enables him to lead the design process and provide a valuable solution that meets budgets and timelines.
Dr. Sam Nunoo P.Eng.
At AEL, Sam brings 13 years of international experience in geotechnical slope stability and mining engineering to the team. Along with his broad experience in these areas, Sam has his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, as well as his MSc. in Mineral Engineering. At AEL he is responsible for geotechnical investigations, rock mechanics, foundation design, slope stability analysis, soil improvement and earthworks design.
Lauren Roach P.Eng.
Chemical Engineer and Senior Project Engineer
With more than 10 years of experience as a project and process engineer, Lauren’s background includes operations as well as design. With experience on major projects across the country, Lauren has managed all aspects of large ventures to ensure they meet budgets and schedules. At AEL, Lauren performs facility inspections and conducts technical reviews to provide recommendations regarding designs and reports. She also performs design calculations for civil and structural projects.
Junior Civil/Environmental Engineer – Engineer-in-Training
Heather has a degree in Civil Environmental Engineering from the University of Alberta and moved to the Kootenays to pursue her career at AEL. Heather is a key member of the team and is responsible for assisting with report writing, drawings and designs, calculations, project management, data collection and surveying. Throughout her degree, Heather gained valuable experience in environmental regulatory compliance and permitting, R&D and environmental monitoring/testing, and contaminated soil treatment, spill response and industrial waste management.
Tanzim Alam M.Eng.
Tanzim has worked extensively on seismic retrofits of commercial and residential projects throughout British Columbia, as well as internationally. He began his career in Bangladesh and has since worked with CMO Consultants as an Engineer-in-Training, with McDonald Steel Building Products Limited as a Design Engineer, and with Amec Foster Wheeler as a Co-op. Tanzim has his Masters in Structural and Earthquake Engineering from the University of British Columbia, and brings his in-depth knowledge of structural and seismic engineering to provide clients with responsive and innovative solutions.
Director of Business Development
At AEL, Mary works to seek out new opportunities to provide top quality engineering services and responsive project management to clients. She is responsible for business development, relationship development, and sourcing opportunities and is also passionate about community engagement, and strives to build positive partnerships for AEL. With a background in large construction projects, Mary also understands the importance of providing quality service, on time and on budget.
At AEL, Jenn is responsible for writing and editing reports, proposals, presentations and web content. She also provides strategic communications advice on stakeholder and client relations, writes and edits marketing materials and supports the team on a variety of communications initiatives that allow the team to provide quality engineering services. Jenn has 15 years of experience in communications and public relations with the private, public, non-profit and educational sectors.
Lorina manages AEL’s day-to-day operations and is responsible for all aspects of office management including accounting, scheduling, merchandising, and administration. Lorina is a key member of the AEL team and ensures the office runs smoothly, allowing the team to focus on providing quality service.
Aliah brings his expertise in electronics and robotics to Austin Engineering Ltd.’s research and development projects. In addition to his work on AEL’s 3D printed models of structures, Aliah is currently developing robots for confined space inspections, underwater vehicles for submerged infrastructure assessments, and drones for aerial reviews. Aliah is committed to providing clients with cutting-edge solutions that are cost-effective and timely.
